A Day in the Life of a
Production Manager

5:00 AM

Awaken to obnoxious alarm.

6:00 AM

Report to office. Finalize crew routes for the day. Hope all personnel show up.

6:15 AM

Adjust crew routes based on no-show personnel.

6:25 AM

Swap equipment, personnel, tools, etc. according to new plan.

6:30 AM

Search for jumper cables to start truck with dead battery.

6:35 AM

Breathe sigh of relief as last truck pulls out of gate. Meet with Ops Mgr. and act as if interested in what is being said.

7:30 AM

Leave office to go inspect properties.
Stop by Burger King for biscuit and coffee. Spill coffee in lap.

8:45 AM

Arrive at first property. Make crew get out of truck to begin work. Work on mower that won't start.

10:00 AM

Stop by office to speak to Property Manager. Assure Property Manager that all issues will be addressed immediately.

11:15 AM

Upon leaving property, stop to check irrigation clock. Break key off in lock.

11:30 AM

Arrive at next property. Crew is taking lunch and takes offense to being interrupted to listen to constructive criticism.

12:30 PM

Get lunch at drive-thru. Spill Coke in lap.

1:00 PM

Return to property to meet with Property Manager. Assure Property Manager that all issues will be addressed immediately.

1:45 PM

Rush to next property for 2:00 OLM inspection. Take several antacid tablets.

2:00 PM

Begin OLM landscape inspection. Bite lip for 2 ½ hours.

4:30 PM

Return to office. Payday. Several checks are incorrect. Small mutiny.

5:00 PM

Route crews for next day. Laugh at the thought of plan actually working.

6:00 PM

Return home. Look at oven trying to decide whether to cook dinner or put head in.
